A Call for Help

We've heard from nurses in the Houston area who work with homebound patients.  We haven't yet been able to help them find services to deliver food, water and other emergency supplies for their patients.

So, we'd like to ask for volunteers in the Houston area who could help them with this good work. Please click here to submit your information and we will connect you with them.

There are other groups in need of help also. Since there is so little information on how to actually get on the ground and help - the Ike Help Center team decided to do a little homework for you.

Here’s what we found:

The City of Houston posted the following message last Wednesday:
Individuals who are interested in volunteering can assist at various locations throughout Houston and Harris County, including the Points of Distribution Centers (P.O.D.s) and area non-profit agencies and shelters.

  • To volunteer or for more information, please call the volunteer line at (713) 853-8802 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
  • Non-profit agencies needing volunteers may also call the volunteer line with their requests.
  • Sugar Land residents are still in desperate need of help. To volunteer you should call Sugar Land's Hurricane Ike Phone Bank at (281) 275-2700. Citizen volunteers have been available, but more are needed to assist with debris cleanup, as well as grocery and pharmacy needs.
