I Need a Temporary Job
Hurricane Ike wiped out more than people's homes. It also took their jobs.
If you are among the many looking for temporary work, you may have to wait until clean-up and recovery efforts hit full swing. Following Hurricane Gustav last month, the State of Louisiana funded 4,000 temporary clean-up and recovery jobs. So far, Texas has not announced a similar plan.
The Longview News-Journal has a small list of temporary jobs available.
Check with a local Texas Workforce office, most of which are open.
The US Department of Labor announced this week it is assisting in the recovery efforts. If you are seeking assistance contact the department's National Contact Center at 1-866-4-USA-DOL (1-866-487-2365) if you have questions about your unemployment insurance, health and safety concerns with cleanup and recovery, or income and job assistance.
You can find jobs, or advertise what kind of work you're looking for, on Craigslist. Visit this page for work in the Houston area.
