Volunteer Architects to Assist Homeowners with Damage Assessment

American Institute of Architects (AIA), Houston Chapter, is helping SE Texans assess damage to their homes caused by hurricane Ike.  AIA Survey Forms, specifically created for disaster assessment of structures, will be completed by volunteer registered architects. This service is free to building owners and carries no obligation.

These surveys can help you understand the nature, severity and consequences of damage to your property.  It can help you talk to your insurance company and contractors you hire to do repairs. The survey results will provide recommendations for long-term solutions for repairs and recommendations on ways to avoid future damage, something that no other agency is able to do.

Houston Mayor Bill White has asked volunteers make a special effort to work within Houston HOPE neighborhoods. Houston HOPE is an initiative targeting seven of Houston’s poorest neighborhoods to offer services and improve quality of life. AIA will work closely with these communities to make sure your damage assessment needs are met, and that you can rebuild you homes and communities in an appropriate and lasting manner.

This program will be in effect until December 19.  If you would like a free damage assessment, call 713-226-7443 (outside of Houston: 888-388-1885) or email hda@aiahouston.org to schedule an appointment to meet with an architect at the damaged location.
