Food Stamp Changes May Benefit Many Ike Victims

Emergency food stamps are now available for qualified individuals and
families in Texas disaster areas.  On Sept. 26, the state changed the
policy for emergency food stamp applications related to Hurricane Ike.
Some people who applied and didn’t get food stamps might be able to get
food stamps now.  Find out if you qualify.

Federal disaster aid is available in 29 Texas counties. If you live in one of these counties, you may be eligible.

Financial assistance might include money for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover
uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster, according to FEMA.
